We at NorthRidge Fellowship believe we have reached a critical stage in the life of our church. We believe a “wave” of God’s work in our community and our church is cresting, and we must paddle with all that we have to move with Him! We launched The Surge Forward campaign October 2018 with the goal of building new dedicated spaces to serve families with young children and to support other family ministries, and also to free up financial resources, thus positioning NorthRidge Fellowship to move with God in whatever he calls us to do.

THANK YOU to all who’ve given so far!
To date, just over 100 gifts and pledge cards have come in, representing over $240,000 in up-front gifts and more than $576,000 in pledges, for nearly $820,000 in total. Praise God! But He is not done! Pledge cards and gifts continue to come in. In fact, as of Dec 20th over 40 additional gifts and pledges came in after Giving Weekend, Nov. 10-11th.

A message from Pastor Ben McEachern

Join The Surge Forward! – Please pray about how God would have you participate in The Surge Forward. If you haven’t already made a pledge, we invite you to join us in the Surge Forward! It will take all of us working together to make this happen – every gift matters. Pledge cards are available here, at the Information Station in the Atrium, and in the church office.

The Surge Forward

We launched “The Surge Forward” campaign for three important reasons:

  • We need to complete the building
To best meet the current needs of our young families, and to better position our church to serve the needs of families God has yet to bring, we must complete a dedicated space for young children’s ministry and improve our ministry staff work spaces to free other spaces to be used more effectively.
  • We want to free up financial resources to maximize ministry impact
Paying off existing debt will free up financial resources and position NorthRidge to respond quickly and with confidence to whatever God calls us to do.
  • We’re being called to Surge Forward, together, as a Kingdom Impact church
We are all called in this important stage in the life of our church to an exceptional focus and effort – a surge forward – to build the faith in Christ required to do greater things and to maximize our Kingdom-Impact potential (John 15). God has set NorthRidge on a course to carry Jesus’ love to our community and world. He is moving, and we want to move with Him!

Goals for “The Surge Forward” Campaign

The ongoing mission of NorthRidge Fellowship is “To become a Community of Christ-followers that love God and express His love to others.”

The Surge Forward campaign is about that Mission and about preparing ourselves, our facilities and our finances to move as God moves – like a wave! – through our church, community and world. It’s about outfitting our church for maximum Kingdom Impact.

Demonstrate love and care for young families and children
In Luke 18:16, Jesus says, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”

Providing a safe and dedicated space for young children and their families communicates they are welcome, and improves our capacity to minister to them and show Jesus’ love.

Complete, and pay off, our building
In 2 Corinthians 9:13, Paul wrote this to the church in Corinth: “Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.”

Completing and paying off our building will position us to move with God and be generous in whatever future ministry opportunities He calls us to. Imagine – what if, what more, what else?

Grow in spiritual maturity and develop our faith
The Apostle Paul wrote this in 2 Corinthians 8:7: “But since you excel in everything – in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you – see that you also excel in this grace of giving.”

This campaign will help us deepen our faith – both individually and corporately – by giving sacrificially of ourselves and our treasure for the sake of the Gospel.

Unite as a team and a community of Christ-followers
The Apostle Paul casts a beautiful vision in Philippians 1:27-28: “Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel and without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you…”

Our goal in this campaign is to unite as a community around the mission God has for us, and to move forward as a community in Loving God, Loving Each Other, and Making a Difference!

“The Surge Forward” Giving Goal

Approximately $1.1 million is needed to complete the planned building project

(Total God-size goal: $1.3 M to complete the building and other updates + $1.5M to pay off total current building debt)

We have been working with Heritage Construction to refine plans and have now received bids back from sub-contractors and determined that total construction costs will come in around $1.1 million.  For $1.3 million we can complete the entire planned addition, PLUS all-new carpeting and paint throughout the entire building, a much-needed re-surfacing of the south parking lot and west side drive, and a small outdoor playground near the south end of the building.

The current giving total (as of Dec 20, 2018) still falls short of the original goal of $2.8 million needed to complete the building and fully pay down existing debt. However, gifts continue to come in!  If $280,000 more in additional gifts and pledges were to come in quickly (by the end of February 2019) the expansion could break ground and likely finish in 2019. Otherwise, it may be a year, spring/summer of 2020, before we can plan to begin the expansion project.

In terms of the current mortgage debt, we do know that the amount remaining on our principal in the spring of 2019 (when we would like to break ground, God willing) will be about $1.5 million.

Equal sacrifice, not equal gifts
A guiding principle for this campaign is that our giving toward The Surge Forward should be over and above our regular giving, and thus increase our Kingdom Impact over and above our current capacity.

Additionally, our giving to The Surge Forward must be about equal sacrifice, not equal gifts. To “sacrifice” means we each willingly give the best we have for a greater purpose. It’s likely we cannot all give the same amount, but we can all sacrifice something. As we do that, we will grow in our faith, together!

This is a God-sized goal, and he’s already shown us it’s possible
This goal is a big goal, but as we look back at the history of NorthRidge, we see that God has already done big things through the generosity of this church. In fact, if we consider the ratio of campaign giving to the level of annual giving in both of our previous campaigns, we see this current grand goal of $2.8 million is certainly feasible. In “Planting the Flag,” the ratio of campaign giving to regular annual giving at that time was about 2.9 times. For the “Base Camp Build-Out,” the ratio was about 2.2 times regular annual giving. For The Surge Forward, to raise $2.8 million our campaign giving will need to be roughly 2.5 times our current annual giving.
