Gifts Worth Giving

Giving good gifts is hard work. Some people are gifted at giving good gifts. Some just give gift cards. Wouldn't it be great to know you could give the gift they really want? The best gifts don't come in a box. They are things like hope, love, joy and peace. These are the gifts everyone really wants. These are the gifts of Christmas. Join us this Christmas season as we learn to give, and receive, "Gifts Worth Giving."

Sent

Christ-followers are sent into the world to share the love of God found through faith in Christ. In this series we are going to learn how to do so in a way that feels like love.

It's a mindset really and it make sense when you look at it from God's perspective. If God the Father sent God the Son into the world to express his love and restore a relationship with him, and if he has given God the Holy Spirit to be our guide and help; then those who receive that love, restoration and presence are expected to share it. Jesus put it this way, "Father…As you have sent me into the world, I have sent them." Christ-followers are sent into the world to share the love of God in Christ. This series is about doing that.

Reborn for this

Living as an authentic community of Christ-followers

Every one of us is a unique expression of humanity. How we look, what we do and the way we do what we do, all finds its origin in something deeper inside us called our DNA. In the same way, every church is unique. At NRF we have a mission statement and vision we seek to live out. But to do so in an authentic way, we need to look to something deeper. We call them, “Our Values”. This month we take our genetic test by connecting with the values that help us live our mission and look like our vision.

July-August 2020

Fruit in season is the best. Ever had peaches so juicy you take a bite and it runs down your chin? Or watermelon, it is just better to eat outside and spit the seeds. That's good fruit. I think that is what the Apostle Paul had in mind when he contrasted what sin does to us versus what God does to us. He describes God’s transformation of us with a series of positive character traits. These are like fruit that never goes out of season. Join us this summer as the Holy Spirit helps us become Good Fruit.

These past months have been challenging on so many levels. But we are not the first generation to go through challenging times. In fact, the church of Jesus Christ is made for challenging times. I believe we are up to the challenge. At a key moment of transition, Jesus pauses to pray for his church. The things he prays about are of critical importance for us to understand and own because they are the things that will make us effective regardless of how our situation changes. This month we want to think deeply about what Jesus prays for his church so that we can join him in prayer and set our hearts and minds on the things that will make us effective as his church.

What happens when the good news about Jesus the Messiah (AKA - The Gospel) comes to town? In a short, tumultuous stay in what is present day Thessaloniki, Greece, the apostle Paul started a church that thrived under intense opposition. Something changed in them and they liked it. It was worth suffering for. Join us as we explore not only what God changes but how he does it when we follow Christ.

Holy Week/Easter 2020

Hope. It is as necessary for human survival as food, water and air. Hope gives our lives meaning. It connects our lives with a preferable future. Much can be endured if one has hope, even a vague hope. The hope of a follower of Jesus is not vague. It is a clear, rich and living hope that rests on who Jesus is and what he did during the events we commemorate as "Holy Week". Join us these eight days from Palm Sunday to Easter as we connect in a deeper way with the hope we have in Jesus.

The Church is the most important team on the planet. God has equipped you to be part of it and he has a role, specific to you. It may play out in a variety of expressions and jobs over the course of your life. But every believer is called and equipped to make a contribution that will make the church look like Jesus.

Life is an epic adventure. Our lives are part of a story that is grand and glorious. Christmas is that moment in history when the Hero arrives and things begin to change.  Christmas is God entering into our story so we can find out we are really part of his story. But do we understand the story we are living? Do we know our part in it? It's time to live the Grand Adventure!

It's the week before Thanksgiving. You will be having turkey, watching football and sharing things you are grateful for…me too. What will you thank God for? Ever notice how when we decide to be grateful we look to the past instead of the future? What if we look back, look around and look forward? This week we will learn how to truly "Enter His Gates with Thanksgiving." Come ready to share!

Fall 2019

“Common sense.” It’s the logical thing any thinking person should be able to figure out, like “buy low and sell high.” For many people, it’s the basis of their religion or irreligion as the case may be. “I do what makes sense to me.” And that’s where common sense breaks down. Especially when it comes to living the life our good God desires for us. We don’t have all the data. The shortest distance between two points is not a straight line when there is a mountain in the way! Here’s the deal, if we want to follow Jesus we need some “Uncommon Sense.” To challenge our thinking, Jesus and some of his closest followers, made a series of paradoxical statements. Each one is designed to get us to rethink our approach to life and get in line with God. Join us this fall as Jesus teaches us some “Uncommon Sense.”

August 2019

It is an inescapable and sometimes uncomfortable truth that God is working to knit his people together into one entity. Sometimes the word picture is that of a body. Other times it is that of a building. But every time it is about us being fit together in real relationships through which God embodies himself to the world. If that is true, then it is God’s will that each of us learn to live in vital connection to the body of Christ. This August we will prepare ourselves to be a congregation that knows how to connect in small groups for God’s glory.

July 2019

Words matter. What you say, what you hear, and what you read matters. Words of encouragement can give you all that you need to succeed in something, while negative words can cut you down and cause you to lose hope. The Bible is commonly referred to as God's Word. If God is good (and He is), then it would stand to reason that His Word is vital to our lives. This July we will hear how God's Word has given direction and encouragement to various leaders from NorthRidge.

Churches come in all shapes and sizes, styles and cultures. There are differing understandings of certain aspects of theology and practice. But what makes a church real is a personal and practical response of its members to the gospel of Jesus Christ. It's when the theology we know becomes a lifestyle we live together. This month we learn how to be a real church.
